I like to lighten up a little during the beginning of a project by finding the colors and light that I want to work with. Here, you can see where I am thinking it through to see what I would like to see.
When I begin my color, I start applying the same color throughout the area that will have that color. Then I mix a new lighter color, darker, and so on. I dab and think while I place the various colors to start working out where the light is coming from, where the darks should fall, and the types of colors I would like to see in the new piece.
By no means does this mean that You can’t change your mind (with oil paint that is), but this will get you started to see if this starts to exhibit the mood and feel that you would like to convey.
Check back to see more progress on this piece and I will fill you in on the details as I go.
